VCI’S CULTURE OF SAFETY
VCI’s safety program is built on a strong foundation of tested values and practices designed to keep our workforce safe. All employees are empowered with resources and authority to find and fix issues in a timely and efficient manner. Our dedicated safety team regularly engages with construction managers, line supervisors, and foremen in the field to ensure they have the tools and knowledge necessary to maintain the highest levels of safety. Our safety team uses a behavior-based safety approach designed to correct unsafe actions and change employees’ attitudes, promoting a safer, healthier workplace for everyone. Safety and operations staff work collaboratively to make sure that an environment of safety and security is paramount at all times.
We believe a safe work environment begins with the hiring process. For this reason, our focus is strong on choosing the right candidate for every open position and requiring every potential VCI employee to pass a thorough background check and extensive substance abuse screening. Candidates with successful background checks and drug screens are required to attend safety training and environmental courses designed around the employee’s intended position.
Throughout our organization, safety instructors also offer regular safety training classes for employees with a range of topics from specialized training to mandatory federal and state safety policies.
Whether we are completing a simple construction task or a complex, environmentally-sensitive project, VCI Construction’s team has the experience and expertise required to fulfill our duties both safely and efficiently. Our concern for safety extends beyond protecting against personal injury to include respect for the environment and personal property. To protect against injury and incident, our managers participate in rigorous ongoing safety training on a range of topics including excavation policies.
VCI Construction has adopted an aggressive approach to improving safety within our organization as evidenced by our impeccable reputation and longstanding customer relationships. Our safety culture recognizes and rewards exceptional behavior, while correcting unacceptable behavior expeditiously. Our in-house training program meets all of the initial certification and ongoing education requirements of the Federal and State Occupational Safety and Health Administrations (OSHA). In addition, each of our supervisors is responsible for conducting thorough audits of their foreman’s’ job sites at least two times each month. This ensures that any safety deficiencies are identified and corrected before employees or the general public is exposed to danger.
